Special Olympics
Junior Bel Fakaosi shares her experiences with the event below.
Hosting the Special Olympians was a fun experience for me. I was able to teach something I love to others who also enjoy the game. I have done volleyball camps before, but I think this camp has to be one of the most fun I've ever been to. It was something different, but very enjoyable.
It was just great seeing these Special Olympians learn and have fun while doing so. They seemed to enjoy the game and seeing that was a great feeling. I really had tons of fun.

Hornet players host volleyball clinic
posted Tue, Oct 4, 2011 by Jon Buzby
In what has become an annual tradition, the Delaware State University Lady Hornets hosted several Special Olympics Delaware athletes and coaches for a volleyball clinic last Monday night on the Hornets' home court inside Memorial Hall.
"We are so happy that Special Olympics has chosen DSU women's volleyball to help with a clinic," DSU head coach Renee Arnold said. "We enjoy this annual event and it gives the players an opportunity to coach and enjoy a pressure-free night of volleyball."
The SODE teams are preparing for the annual Fall Festival volleyball tournament, which will be held October 21-22 at the University of Delaware Field House.
"The experience for our athletes and coaches as the get ready for their tournament is invaluable," said Mark Wise, SODE director of training. "And from what we hear from the DSU players and coaches, the experience for them is very rewarding."

Route 1 Rivalry - a day later
Big thanks to those who came up to Newark to support the Hornets - a lot of familiar faces in the crowd, including members of the bowling team. There were also a few parents of current and former players in attendance.
I took some photos last night, but they turned out somewhat grainy. The gym lighting wasn't very conducive to producing good photos.

Hurricane Irene - Coach Arnold
On Thursday afternoon when we received the news that the tournament was cancelled we starting looking at other options of playing a team elsewhere, but with the storm predictions it was better to be safe at home than on the road in a swaying bus. William and Mary was our toughest preseason tournament so we were throwing the team into the deep end and seeing how well we could swim.
Expectations are high with this team. We have had some key team members step up in the last week and I am very excited to see how that will translate to game time results. There is nothing wrong with another week of practice and preparation to ensure we are where we need to be. The team in very excited to just get on the court and play a game to see how we stack up to others. Some of the things that have happened already at practice, I feel like we have already won a match.
Game time is Friday at 2 pm v. Cornell.
